Dr Stephen Hughes

Dr Stephen Hughes has a BSc  in Physics and Physiology from Queen Elizabeth College, a MSc in Radiation Physics from University College and PhD in Physics from King's College, University of London.

 

He worked as a medical physicist in London from 1981 to 1997 and since then has been a lecturer/senior lecturer in physics at QUT.

 

His main interests have been in physics and astronomy education but he has also been doing research in the physics of siphons and water flow. For example, he is involved in a project to investigate the use of siphons to drain water from glacial lakes in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan to reduce the risk of catastrophic downstream flooding.
